Low economic standard - Statistical data for Malmö's areas

Shows the number of people in a household with a low economic standard. Low economic standard is a relative measure of poverty. A household has a low economic standard if their economic standard is lower than 60% of the median for Sweden as a whole. A household's economic standard is measured as disposable income per consumption unit. This means that the household's total income after tax is divided by the number of consumption units in the household. The number of consumption units in a household depends on how many people live in the household, their relationship and age. For example, a household with one person has one consumption unit, while a couple living together has 1.51 consumption units. The system of consumption units is used to make comparisons of household income fairer: a couple living together does not need twice as high an income as two single people to have the same standard: you may only need to have one home, a TV, a bathtub and so on and can have lower food costs by cooking together. The weights used are based on budget calculations made by Statistics Sweden. The population is limited to so-called full-year households, which refers to households where the adults in the household were registered in Sweden at both the beginning and end of the year. This is because Statistics Sweden lacks income statistics from periods when people lived abroad - for a person who immigrates to Sweden in December, only salary and income from December will be included. Since it would be misleading to compare this person with a person whose entire income was yesterday, only full-year households are included.
