Data file for: At the Intersection of Service Learning and Engineering Education for Sustainable Development: A Bibliometric Review of Research (2004 – 2023)

Over the past two decades, service learning has become increasingly prominent in engineering education for sustainable development. Nonetheless, a comprehensive review of research in this field has been lacking. This bibliometric review aims to fill this gap by analyzing 131 Scopus-indexed documents spanning from 2004 to 2023. The descriptive analysis uncovered a growing body of literature, with a predominant contribution from the United States. Citation analyses further identified influential scholars, institutions, and sources, enhancing our understanding and advancing the knowledge in this domain. The keyword co-occurrence analysis highlighted key topics and conceptual foci, including project-based learning, ethics and social responsibility, graduate education and research, capstone courses, and first-year engineering. Additionally, the study identified research fronts in areas such as learning outcomes, multidisciplinary teamwork, renewable energy, and food security.
