Ethical Discourses in Technology-Mediated Assessment: A Case Study of EFL Writing in Indonesian Private Universities

This research aims at investigating how ethical discourses are understood in technology-mediated assessment practices in English as a foreign language (EFL) writing programs in Indonesian private universities. This study investigates three private universities established by non-state foundations with diverse purposes. The findings present how policies frame teachers as assessment designers, communicative assessors, assessment motivators, data analysts and assessment surveillants mediating ethical discourses. The second findings chapter demonstrates how teachers operationalised, contested, and interpreted these complex state and institutional ethical expectations of assessment roles in practices. Finally, this study presents students’ perceptions of ethical discourses in technology-mediated assessment practices.
