This is the first comprehensive study of clinical Klebsiella pneumoniae in Trinidad and Tobago. The increased multi-drug resistance and virulence associated with severe infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae is worrying. The limited information on the epidemiology and diversity of strains roaming the hospitals is concerning. This study intended to evaluate the level of resistance and virulence in the local strains and to provide a better insight in to the genomics of the strains that can alternatively assist doctors when treating infections.
