The ongoing invasion of the endogenous retrovirus Kuruka in natural Drosophila melanogaster populations

Data associated to the publication of the discovery of the Kuruka endogenous retrovirus.The D. erecta genome is a newly assembled genome from the reference strain of this species.The D. melanogaster samples were collected in 2023 and 2025 in the US. These represent the first D. melanogaster sequenced with long-reads that carry multiple insertions of Kuruka into the genome.
