To confirm that an ellipsoidal fecal pellets in a sinking particles were generated by fecal pellet-like dinoflagellates, the eukaryotic community structures in the food vacuoles of fecal pellet-like dinoflagellate cells and the contents of the ellipsoidal fecal pellets were analyzed and compared. 18S rRNA gene V9 region was amplified and sequenced by an Illumina MiSeq sequencing system.
