Resistance to chemotherapy is one of the major problems in cancer treatment. Resistance could be inherent or acquired. In case of inherent resistance, tutors do not respond to chemotherapy at all, and this could have a genetic basis. In the case of acquired resistance, the tumours respond initially to chemotherapy and gradually acquire resistance or tolerance to the drug. This could be due to activation of different signalling pathways, epigenetic changes or metabolic changes. Regardless of the mechanism, the resistant tumours would express a different gene expression pattern as compared to the sensitive tumours. The gene expression would include protein coding as well as non coding genes. In this study, a cell based model of chemoresiatance (lung cancer cells) has been used to profile small RNAs to identify differentially expressed small RNAs, particularly miRNAs.
