Apparatus (100) and method for removing a surface material from a workpiece (1)， comprising a scraper (2) that is able， for removal， to be brought into engagement with a surface (12) to be removed and， as a result of the engagement of the surface with the scraper upon contact， defines a first axis (A1) in the engagement region， and a conveying device (5) for bringing about a relative movement of the surface to be removed from the workpiece and/or of the scraper in a conveying direction (RW)， wherein the scraper (2) is characterized in that the scraper extends at a first angle (a) and/or a second angle (b) with respect to the surface (12) to be removed， wherein the first angle is a rake angle and the second angle is an axis angle.
