Use of functional amino acids to improve performance of pigs under sanitary challenge

This study aimed at assessing the impact of using some essential amino acids to maximize pig performance under a sanitary challenge in attempt to mimic what happens in commercial farms. Animals of high sanitary status were allocated into two groups (good vs. poor barn) and diets were supplemented with amino acids or not. Performance, metabolic, and microbiome traits were analyzed. In conclusion, functional amino acid supplementation did not affect growth of animals allocated under good sanitary status, but significantly and positively impacted animals under poor sanitary status, while demonstrating that the core gut microbiome composition was not altered.
