This layer contains the data of state level India Chikungunya Statistics (2015 - 2024) and contains information about number of suspected chikungunya cases in 2015, number of confirmed chikungunya cases in 2015, number of suspected chikungunya cases in 2016, number of confirmed chikungunya cases in 2016 etc. About Chikungunya Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. It is caused by the chikungunya virus (CHIKV). An infected person cannot directly transmit the virus to another person. The disease is spread when a mosquito feeds on a person with the virus circulating in their blood. The mosquito can pick up the virus and spread it to another person through its bite. Symptoms The most common symptoms of infection are fever and joint pain. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash. Chikungunya cases in India In 2019, India recorded more than 50 thousand cases of chikungunya. Even though the figures showed a reduction in the last three years, it was still considered high, nearly twice the number observed during 2015. Chikungunya is a viral disease that transmits through the bite of an infected mosquito.
