Dataset for: Characterization of Sweetpotato Market Segments 2024

In 2023, the CIP Market Intelligence team, in consultation with breeders from CIP and national programs, have revised and expanded the seed product market segmetation for sweetpotato. In 2024, an effort was made to characterize all 30 sweetpotato market segments identified in CGIAR subregions. The dataset presents the key descriptors of each sweetpotato seed product market segment; namely for each sweetpotato producing country in CGIAR subregions: 1) The proportion of national acreage aligned to each relevant segment; 2) The acreage aligned to each relevant segment; 3) The average yield for each relevant segment; 4) The average producer price for each relevant segment. This information is critical to help prioritization in breeding and seed system programming and investments and, once uploaded in GLOMIP, will allow to conduct in-depth analyses of the impact opportunity associated to each segment based on the 200+ indicators which cascade from the descriptors provided through this dataset.
