Dataset "Towards Sympoetry through Letters. Mentioning and Discussing Works in Early German Romantics' Correspondences"

This dataset constitutes a reduced subcorpus of the data collected in the project "Correspondences of Early Romanticism" which is the basis for an analysis of references to works and periodicals described in a paper by the same title (Preprint at Research Square; submitted to International Journal of Digital Humanities). The subcorpus contains all correspondences of six core correspondents: August Wilhelm von Schlegel, Friedrich von Schlegel, Caroline von Schelling, Dorothea von Schlegel, Johann Gottlieb Fichte, and Johanna Fichte. The dataset consists of csv-files: letters_all.csv – all letters by or to the six core correspondents contained in the database at the writing of the paper (10/2025) letters_work_references.csv – only those letters in which works are referenced; this also excludes all letters which are editorially inferred In "letters_all", each row corresponds to one sending action connected to a letter, meaning each letter and its information appears at least twice (more, if the letter was sent or received by several people). It contains the following columns: correspondent – the sender or receiver of a letter correspondence_action – if the correspondent was sending or receiving the letter letter – a link to the letter in question on the project website inferred – information if the letter was inferred or not year – the year in which the letter was written or sent In "letters_work_references", each row corresponds to one mention of a work, meaning each letter, together with its sender and year, can appear as many times as works are referenced within. It contains the following columns: sender – the sender of a letter letter – a link to the letter in question on the project website work_title – information on the work mentioned work_periodical – if the work is a work in the narrower sense, or a periodical work_type – if the first case is true, the type of the work in question year – the year in which the letter was written or sent
