Identification and pharmacological evaluation of a bombesin-related pentadecapeptide from the skin secretion of the broad-folded frog, Hylarana latouchii

Ranatensin-HLa is a novel bombesin-like peptide which was isolated from the lyophilised skin secretion of Hylarana latouchii. It was originally-identified through “shot-gun” cloning of its biosynthetic precursor sequence. The synthetic Ranatensin-HLa was found to exhibit potent pharmacological activity on increasing frequency of contraction of rat uterus smooth muscle, and myotropic activity on rat bladder smooth muscle.
