The LINKS dataset was developed by a research team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It contains 100 million single-degree-of-freedom planar linkages and 1.1 billion linkage curves, making it the largest planar mechanism database currently available. This dataset is not restricted to specific mechanism types such as four-bar, six-bar linkages, and covers a wide range of mechanisms with complexity up to 20 linkage joints. The dataset was constructed using efficient generation schemes and simulation algorithms, with vectorization and parallelization technologies drastically enhancing simulation speed. The LINKS dataset is primarily intended to address the "path generation" problem, which involves designing linkages capable of producing specific desired trajectories. Furthermore, most circular and arc-shaped trajectories were filtered out from the dataset to mitigate data bias and improve the performance of data-driven models. The application areas of the LINKS dataset include engineering design, kinematic synthesis, and machine learning, with the goal of providing a standardized dataset for these fields to facilitate method comparison and research progress.
