Microbacterium arabinogalactanolyticum JCM9171 was originally isolated as Aureobacterium sp. M-2 strain from soil and then was renamed to Aureobacterium arabinogalactanolyticum. This strain produced endo-D-arabinase, which is an enzyme for the degradation of D-arabinan part of lipoarabinomannan and arabinogalactan found in the cell walls of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The enzyme was produced by the induction of cell wall fractions from Corynebacteria and Mycobacteria containing D-arabinan. Our objective is to clone D-arabinan degradative enzymes.
