The total coal imports to the United Kingdom (UK) from Russia reached approximately 1.1 million metric tons in 2022, down 49 percent from the previous year. To compare, in 2013, the UK imported over 20 million metric tons of steam coal, coking coal, and anthracite from Russia. The UK banned imports of Russian coal and coal products from August 2022 in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
