The purpose of this survey is to obtain information for statistical and scientific assessment of the extent and composition of working hours for various groups of the adult population. # The survey was initiated because the Government wished to have a national examination of the working hours of the population. This was to form part of the basis of the Government's information to the labour-market parties prior to the collective bargainings which were commenced in the autumn of 1982. # The survey maps out the extent of shift work, part-time work, overtime work, salaried outworking, in-service training activities, sick leave, number of working hours a week of the respondent's spouse, holidays, and the relation between principal occupation and sideline. # #The following information is included from the questionnaires: #1. Background information: #- Sex. #- Year of birth. #- Marital status. #- Number of children aged 0-14 years. #- Occupation. #- Education. #2. Work situation information: #- Work function. #- Type and branch of trade of the enterprise. #- Number of subordinates. #- Number of weekly working hours and placing of this. #- Over-time work. #- Time used for transport, including shopping and taking/fetching # children. #- Arrangements regarding private errands/breaks during working # hours. #- Unemployment periods in 1981. #- Sideline - type and extent - and form of pay. #3. Other information: #- Sick leave. #- Holidays in 1981. #- Trade union membership. #- In-service training in 1981. #- Conditions of tenure. #- Number of weekly working hours of spouse
