Census Tract-Level Summary of Air Conditioning Prevalence

This dataset provides modeled estimates of residential air conditioning (AC) prevalence for U.S. Census tracts using 2010, 2015, and 2020 tract boundary definitions. While the spatial geometries (tracts and associated counties) correspond to each referenced boundary vintage, the AC prevalence values reflect 2021 conditions, estimated from predictive models trained and calibrated using 2021 data. This design enables consistent, crosswalked comparison of 2021 AC prevalence across multiple historical geographic definitions, supporting longitudinal and harmonized spatial analyses where boundary changes would otherwise impede comparability. The dataset is suitable for applications in climate-change vulnerability assessment, heat-risk and adaptation planning, urban and housing research, and energy system analyses, including energy planning, energy burden studies, and energy-efficiency targeting.
