TemirAntibacter": A Three-Level System for the Prevention of Ventilator-Associated Infections: From Staff Sanitation to Patient Lung Protection

Recent discoveries in microbiology, including the recently proven mechanism of direct intercellular protein exchange mediating antibiotic resistance in bacteria, show that classical antibiotic strategies are losing the arms race. This paper presents a new paradigm for the prevention of infections associated with mechanical ventilation (MV). Instead of applying selective pressure on bacteria, a three-level closed-loop system is proposed. This system includes treatment of staff and patients with a nasal spray, total physico-chemical destruction of biofilms in the ventilator circuit, and subsequent protection of the patient's lungs via inhalation of the modified LL-37 peptide. -
