Raw data for Multigeneration responses of the springtail Folsomia candida to short chain per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS)

This submission provides the raw data and R scripts with data analysis and visualization from a multigeneration study on the springtail Folsomia candida to perfluorobutane sulfonic acid (PFBS) and perfluorobutane suofonamide (FBSA) for five generations in LUFA 2.2 soil (following OECD test guideline 232, with modifications). Dataset_Multigen_Folsomia_candida_tests.xlsx: Raw dataset including nominal concentrations, measured concentrations, adult survival, reproduction and population growth rate for springtails to PFBS or FBSA in five generations (F0 - F4). 1_Data_Inspection.R: R script to check data, control performance, and calculate the mean and standard deviation of replicates. 2_Statistics.R: R script to perform Shapiro-wilk test and Levene's test for normality and homogeneity of variances of data per compound, per generation and per endpoint. And R script to compare responses per cocnentration to the corresponding control using either one-way ANOVA followed by Dunnett's post-hoc tests, or Kruskal-Wallis tests followed by Dunn's post-hoc tests with Holm adjustment, depending on the outcomes of the normality and homogeneity tests. 3_Model_Fitting_and_LRTs.R: R script to perform dose-response model selection, dose-response model fitting for toxicity data per compound, per generation and per endpoint. R script to perform likelihood ratio tests to determine if effect concentrations (LC50, EC50_repro, and EC50_r, for adult survival, reproduction and population growth rate, respectively) changed significantly over generations. 4_Data_Combination.R: R script to organize model fits for plotting. 5_Plotting_dose_response_curves.R: R script to plot the fitted dose-response curves. Variables in the raw dataset explained: Conc_nominal - nominal values of the spiked concentration of PFAS in standard LUFA 2.2 natural soil in mg/kg dry soil. Conc_measured - measured values of PFAS in LUFA 2.2 soil in mg/kg dry soil; measured exposure concentrations. Survival - numbers of survived adults in each jar at the end of the exposure to PFAS per generation. Reproduction - numbers of juveniles produced in each jar at the end of the exposure to PFAS per generation. No. of starting animal - numbers of animals in each jar at the beginning of the exposure to PFAS per generations. Gen - abbreviation of "Generation", generation of the animals in the multigeneration toxicity tests. Compound - the two test compound: PFBS: perfluorobutane sulfonic acid; FBSA: perfluorobutane sulfonamide. T - actual reproductive period (in days) of the springtails in each generation. This is the period from the sexual maturation of the starting animals during the exposure to the end of the exposure. r - population growth rate (day^(-1)), calculated under the assumption of exponential population growth (Nt = N0 * e^(r*T)), where Nt is the number of springtails at the end of teh experiment, N0 the number of animals at the start of the experiment, T the actual reproductive period and r the population growth rate.
