Card transactions as a share of GDP in the Euro area 2009-2019

Card payments developed positively as a ratio to the overall GDP of the Euro area from 2009 to 2019. The importance of card payments relative to the size of the economy of the Eurozone increased during this period of time. In 2019, the total card transactions value corresponded to approximately 16.6 percent of the GDP of the Euro area. The amount of card payments in the Eurozone has steadily risen every year of this period of time.
