A xylan-containing composition (1) and a process (100) for producing a xylan-containing composition (1) are shown， in which acid (4) is added to an aqueous alkaline solution (2) which has hemicelluloses (3) and a precipitate (6) containing xylan is precipitated from the precipitate suspension (5) formed. In order to increase the yield of the process mentioned at the outset， it is proposed that acid (4) be continuously added to the aqueous alkaline solution (2) until the pH in the precipitation suspension (5) falls below 4 and the temperature of the Precipitation suspension (5) does not fall below a precipitation temperature during the precipitation， the precipitation temperature being at least 40 ° C. In addition， a cellulose or viscose process (200) comprising such a process (100) is shown.
