This thesis describes the use of non-critical raw materials used for electricity storage. In that regard transition metal ions are being captured in alginates where they are used for this purpose. The final system is used to prepare a magnesium ion battery. Infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and NMR were used to verify the composition and structure of the formed alginates, where data were acquired via the standard equipment collecting method. In order to understand the performance of the prepared materials, charge discharge profiling with a MACCOR, Cyclic Voltammetry and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy with an Autolab. Data were acquired via the equipment data collection. The magnesium behaviour was further analysed in an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) equipped with a potentiostat (Autolab) to deposit and remove magnesium. AFM-pictures are thus taken.<br>
