Efficacy of Beauveria bassiana and Cordyceps javanica against the Potato Psyllid Bactericera cockerelli in Field-Grown Potato in Huancabamba, Peru

Carmen Maribel Salcedo Velarde, Integrated Pest Management Specialist, graduated with a degree in Biology from the National University Federico Villarreal in 2006. She has completed coursework for a Master's degree in Integrated Pest Management at the National Agrarian University La Molina. She also has 20 years of experience in biological control methods, including rearing beneficial insects, training others, and specializing in integrated pest management. Her responsibilities include coordinating, managing, and supervising the phytosanitary management of crops (squash, castor bean, sweet potato, corn, onion, citrus, avocado, and lucuma) used in beneficial insect production and other trials. She manages crop residues (composting and biofertilizer production) for use on host crops in the SCB fields. She also oversees the planting of seedlings in nurseries for later use in the field (fertilization, temperature and humidity management, and pest control). Proposals, implementation, and supervision of the development of basic and applied biological and non-biological methodologies related to biological control and integrated pest management (IPM). Conducting and supervising field efficacy tests of biological control agents (nematodes and entomopathogenic fungi, Trichogramma spp., lacewings, predatory mites, Trichoderma spp., Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, Anagyrus vladimiri, etc.), as well as other compatible methods. My research interests include the application of biological control agents for the control of economically important pests in Peru. Winner of the José Lamas Award at the XLVIII National Entomology Convention, Lima, November 27-30, 2006.
