This study investigates biphenyl and benzoate biodegradation and subsequent carbon flow between these and other guilds in PCB-contaminated soil from Kodiak, Alaska. DNA stable isotope probing (SIP) was used to identify members of the bacterial community involved in utilization of 13C-biphenyl (an analogue of PCBs), and 13C-benzoate (a product/intermediate of biphenyl degradation and analogue of chlorobenzoates)
