The reaction of anti-B18H22 with [Co2(CO)8] and [(η5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2(C6H10)]+ yields the macropolyhedral metallaboranes [anti-B18H20Co(CO)3][(CH3)4N] (1) and [9-(Fe(CO)2(η5-C5H5))-anti-B18H21] (2), respectively. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of complex 1 showed that the structure consists of an 11-vertex nido-cobaltaborane subunit edge shared with a 10-vertex nido-borane fragment.
