Transcriptome of the longest-living vertebrate on earth and its hallmarks of longevity

The Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus) is the longest-living vertebrate known, with an estimated lifespan exceeding 400 years. Despite its remarkable longevity, its molecular adaptations remain poorly understood. This project aims to generate and analyze transcriptomic data from muscle and liver tissues to investigate gene expression patterns associated with longevity. The resulting RNA-Seq datasets provide foundational resources for comparative genomics and aging research in elasmobranchs and other vertebrates.
