<p>The ZIP/Tract Cross-Reference File is a listing of State/county/place/ZIP/tract code combinations within approximately the urbanized portions of each of the 230 (233 including Puerto Rico) Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas (SMA's) that existed at the time of the 1970 Decennial Census. It was developed primarily for use in the 1972 Economic Censuses as an editing tool to validate ZIP/geography relationships contained in the Address Reference File which was used to geocode economic establishment addresses.</p>
