资源简介:
Background: Cervical cancer is the most prevalent cancer in women globally with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. The HPV vaccine is a highly effective, inexpensive and safe in preventing HPV serotypes 16 and 18, which are responsible for cervical cancer. The HPV vaccine has recently become commercially available in Nepal. The vaccine has not been included in the Nepal national immunization program. The study aimed to assess the impact of a structured educational intervention on parents' knowledge, perception and acceptance of the HPV vaccine. Methods: An interventional one-group pre-test post-test study design was used among selected parents whose daughters are currently studying in classes 5,6,7 and ages 9 -12 years in the schools. Multistage sampling technique was used to select sample population. Pre- and post-intervention data were collected between Jan-1 to Feb-30 -2023 through a structured self-administered questionnaire in the structured-educational intervention program. Results: Parents' knowledge and perceptions of the HPV vaccine changed significantly between before and after the educational session, and their acceptance of the vaccine increased. The knowledge scores significantly increased from before (Mean 7.02, SD 3.11) to after (Mean 27.81, SD 4.20), t (-75.97), p=<0.001. Similarly, there was a substantial rise in perception ratings t (-49.95), p=<0.001, from before (Mean 27.81, SD 4.20) to after (Mean 41.50, SD 2.91). The post-test result showed a rise in HPV vaccine acceptance as well (from 40.3% to 87.9%). Conclusion: After the structured-educational intervention, there were significant improvements in parents’ knowledge, perception, and acceptance of the HPV vaccine. The vaccine rates of children are greatly influenced by the opinions of their mothers. Meanwhile, HPV vaccine is a relatively newly introduce vaccine in Nepal. Thus, a parent-focused, structured educational intervention may have a significant impact on increasing vaccine acceptability.
