VPRS 14148 Special Deeds Books [1851 - 1960]; Mining Company Applications [1859]

Special Deeds were for grants for special purposes such as recreation facilities (parks, racecourses, recreation reserves), municipal facilities such as Shire Halls, road and railway reservations, health facilities such as hospitals and asylums and other such uses as Mechanics Institutes and free libraries. Some of these record grants in perpetuity whilst others record long-term leases to trustees. Others record long-term leases to large companies for industrial sites. In this series, a transcription or copy of the deed is given, often including a plan of the land granted. Many of these deeds are referred to in VPRS 14146 Register of Grants for Special Purposes. Those grants made for what were to remain as Crown Reserves may have given an Rs number (the number given that reserve( or a C number which denotes Crown reserve file registration.The Mining Company Applications for 1859, found at the back of Unit 1, has listed the Registered number of the application at the Chief Secretary's Office, the names of the applicants and the company, the Mining District Warden, the size and description of the area applied for, the term in years, the dates of the lease and the appearance of notices in the Government Gazette and Remarks.
