Hurricane Harvey

This project collected, filtered, and analyzed tweets from professional sources of meteorological information (including the National Weather Service, broadcast meteorologists, and emergency managers) during several tropical cyclone events. Here, we share documentation for our Twitter data collection, coding, and filtering processes, as applied to these tropical cyclone cases. The documentation shared here allows users to take “big data” from social media and filter it in order to yield smaller, targeted datasets of the most interest to at-risk users during disasters.
