This statistic highlights the sales volume growth of bottled water in leading countries worldwide from 2010 to 2011, by country. China's volume of bottled water increased by around 18 percent in 2011 compared to 2010.Bottled water Bottled water is widely consumed all over the world and has been around for centuries. Packaging varies between glass or plastic water bottles. Zenith International held a congress on the global bottled water market in July 2012 and highlighted the major trends facing the industry. In the last decade, the bottled water sales volume has shown growing numbers. The highest volume growth has been seen in Asian countries such as Indonesia, China, and India. Indonesia accounted for the highest sales volume increase of bottled water with around 24 percent. In the United States, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines bottled water as beverage with no further added ingredients that is intended for human consumption and comes packaged in sealed bottles or similar containers. It can be treated with carbon dioxide or not. The FDA classifies some bottled water types by their origin such as artesian well water, mineral water, spring water and well water. The products have to be labeled clearly accordingly. Grocery shoppers can choose between a large variety of bottled water brands. Major bottled still water brands competing in the U.S. market are, amongst others, Aquafina, Dasani, Glaceau Vitaminwater, Poland Spring and Nestlé Pure Life. Those brands can be easily attributed to key players such as PepsiCo, The Coca-Cola Company and Nestlé Waters. Apart from private label products, these three companies accounted for all sales in the top ten ranking for bottled still water in 2013. The bottled water brands Dasani and Glaceau are owned by Atlanta-based Coca-Cola. Combined they accounted for a market share of 24.7 percent, based on total generated sales in 2013.
