资源简介:
This dataset contains the underway data from Voyage 7.2 1989-90 (HIMS) of the Aurora Australis. This was the maiden cruise of the AA and was a manned marine science voyage. DLS data types were logged at 60-second intervals. The observations were taken between May and July 1990 en route from Hobart to Heard Island and back to Hobart. The Programmer's and Data Quality Reports are available via the Related URL section. Also available is a scan of a printed plot of a section of the Voyage 7.2 1989/90 (HIMS) track in the Heard Island area, 18 May to 14 June 1990.A copy of the voyage leader's report is included with the data quality report download. From the Voyage Leader's Report:Voyage 7.2 was the main marine science cruise of the season, and the maiden voyage of Aurora Australis. Research was conducted in the region of Heard Island, and the main objectives were:1) A survey of the distribution and abundance of demersal fish in shelf waters in the EEZ around Heard Island.2) A site survey for the forthcoming global warming experiment to be conducted by CSIRO Division of Oceanography.3) Research on the formation and distribution of cloud condensation buclei by scientists from the University of NSW.4) Research on the distribution and abundance of phytoplankton cells and their pigments.5) Studies on the zooplankton of the area.6) Studies on the invertebrate benthos brought up in the trawls by workers from the South Australian Museum.7) Capture and transport to Australia of live fish for aquarium display at the Sydney Aquarium, Darling Harbour.8) Deploy a party of four people at Spit Point, Heard Island, for the maximum possible time for studies on seal diets and foraging ranges. The basic plan was to head straight for Heard Island with at most one stop per day for a CTD drop to 150m, deploy the current meter array for CSIRO and the drifting buoy for the Bureau of Meteorology just SE of the Island and to deploy the shore party at the first opportunity. Thereafter the fish survey would determine the vessel's route around the EEZ between the fishing sites, and the other scientific programmes would continue in "piggy back" fashion. The shore party would be picked up and the current meter array recovered and redeployed as late as prudently possible. With this in mind, it was agreed a priori that the shore party would be ready to depart at short notice any time within the last week of the planned stay. After leaving the Heard Island vicinity, it was planned to visit Kerguelen en route to Australia to sample icefish from that area for comparison of their genetic structure with those from the Heard Island area.
