Restoring the Balance in Weed and Erosion Management on Fraser Island - Stage 1

Since the declaration of Fraser Island as a World Heritage area the variety of weeds on the island has risen from 40 to 200 and 4WD vehicle travel has moved large areas of sand creating erosion issues in some areas of the island. The project will address some of these issues including weeds and erosion at Indian Head, track work, weeds management and erosion control on the Great Walk. There will also be the opportunity for replanting with Pandanus which has been damaged by the Jamella Wasp as well as seed collection and propagation to continue the replacement program. These action will improved the biodiversity on the island by allowing native species to regenerate with the removal of the weeds and the work on erosion prevention.
