T. foetus is a flagellated protist and the causative agent of bovine trichomoniasis. It also has two life stages, a free-swimming pare-shaped trophozoite and a spherical pseudocyst, believed to be induced under stressful environmental conditions. As it currently unknown how T. foetus responds to a wide variety of environmental stresses the transcriptomes have been sequenced of the Belfast strain under several conditions. These are: low temperature, high temperature, oxidative stress, low pH, high pH and nutrient depletion.
