Stakeholder mapping for interviews and surveys conducted to map awareness, perceptions and education on biodiversity and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in Europe

Within work package 1 (WP1) of the eNaBlS project, our objective was to provide an up-to-date overview of current awareness, perceptions, and concerns regarding biodiversity and the positioning of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in society, with a particular emphasis on students and youth. Additionally, eNaBlS sought to identify the presence of NBS topics within universities and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, spanning both biodiversity-related and other disciplines. To support the development of the foreseen surveys and interviews in WP1, all project partners collaboratively created a stakeholder table listing institutions from the higher education (HE) and TVET sectors, as well as organisations that could support broader dissemination to society. This preparatory stakeholder mapping facilitated targeted and coordinated outreach, minimised duplicate invitations, and enabled systematic tracking of engagement efforts. Each partner identified and contacted relevant experts within their networks, ensuring coverage across both HEIs and TVET organisations, and intentionally reaching out to experts from both biodiversity and non-biodiversity fields. In many cases, multiple organisational units (such as faculties or institutes) within a single institution were contacted to comprehensively identify existing courses and programmes related to biodiversity and NBS.
