Seasonal changes in the microbial community in sediments of two carbonate-factory lakes (raw sequence reads)

The goal of this study was to study interactions between climatic, hydrological, sedimentological, geochemical, and microbiological systems in modern lakes in order to develop more robust paleoenvironmental interpretations of lacustrine systems from the rock record. We characterized seasonal changes in carbonate sedimentology, geochemistry, and microbial communities in saline "carbonate factory" lakes in North America--Great Salt Lake, Utah, and Green Lake, New York--representing diverse environments and climates. We characterized lakewater and shallow sediment microbial communities using 16S and 18S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing.
