LAUT Species - Segmented Single Tree Pointclouds from Austrian Forests

This dataset comprises individual-tree point clouds in .laz format, captured across 16 plots in four regions of Eastern and Southern Austria covering nine common Central European species (spruce, fir, larch, pine, beech, oak, birch, hornbeam, maple) with DBH ≥ 7 cm. 6963 point clouds were labeled with species and segmentation was manually corrected (all files in "_species_trees.zip"), the remaining 3.502 trees of the forest plots without species information were not corrected (all files in "_other_trees.zip"). Data were acquired using the GeoSLAM ZEB-Horizon (VLP‑16, 903 nm) walking in parallel lines spaced 20 meters; the resulting point clouds were segmented using the region-growing workflow from the R-package treeX (https://github.com/anditockner/treeX/). Each tree point cloud contains XYZ coordinates, capture time, and intensity (no color information). The following meta-information are available for each tree: Besides species labels there are geometric measures (e.g., dbh, height, crown metrics) as well as intensity-based features computed over four vertical sections (upper, middle, lower third; crown section), including mean and quantiles (25th, 60th, 95th) and L‑moments (1st–9th) of intensity distributions. Additionally, species-descriptive ratios are contained, combining geometry and intensity (e.g., hd, dcw, cvcc, nca, rul3i). A detailed description of the data is found in the file species_meta.txt.
