NRS-15864 | Parramatta Road Trust Minute Book

This minute book commenced with the first meeting of the Parramatta Road Trust on 26 November 1849. The volume records all minutes of meetings up to the last meeting of the Trust on 22 September 1888. It contains such details as decisions of the Commissioners of the Trust and records the amounts paid in wages, salaries and expenditures for road and bridge repairs. There are regular reports from Surveyors and Overseers. The volume has inserted loose in the front, a copy of a letter of resignation sent by the Commissioners of the Trust to the Commissioners for Roads. The letter is dated 24 September 1888, and expresses the Commissioners’ concern at the bad state of repair of bridges and roads due to lack of funds. The last paragraph of the letter states "We might remind you that we have applied to the Government for a sum equal to the amount of tolls abolished, and that having been declined we now have the honour to Tender our resignations as Members of the Parramatta Roads Trust".
