Effects of maternal ligature-induced periodontitis on brain in offsprings

The aim of this study is to elucidate how maternal periodontitis affects the developing brain in offsprings, especially the potential role of microbiome alterations. We induced oral dysbiosis in pregnant mice by ligature-induced periodontitis and assessed its impact on brain function in offsprings. To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate the effects of maternal oral microbiome disruption on brain function and gut microbiome in offsprings, providing new insights into the link between maternal oral health and perinatal brain development.
