Description of Nanoviridae adapted from ICTVdb Virion Properties Morphology Virions consist of a capsid. Virus capsid is not enveloped, round with icosahedral symmetry. The isometric capsid has a diameter of 17-20.2-26 nm. The capsomer arrangement is not obvious. Physicochemical and Physical Properties Virions have a buoyant density in CsCl of 1.28-1.34 g cm-3. There are 1 sedimenting component(s) found in purified preparations. A260/A280 ratio is 1.35-1.375-1.4. Nucleic Acid The Mr of the genome constitutes 16-16.5-17% of the virion by weight. The genome is segmented and consists of six segments of to eight segments of circular, single-stranded DNA. The complete genome is 1290-2325-3360 nucleotides long. RNA-1 is about 890-1147-1300 nucleotides long RNA-2 is about 880-1090-1300 nucleotides long. RNA-3 is about 880-1025-1171 nucleotides long RNA-4 is about 870 nucleotides long. The genome has an intergenic poly (A) region. Proteins Proteins constitute about 83-83.5-84% of the particle weight. The viral genome encodes structural proteins.
