We extracted DNA from the teeth of adults from three cemeteries in southern Italy (1st-3rd c. C.E.) and screened for molecular signatures of Plasmodium to prioritize the samples. Using a strategy to increase the yield of Plasmodium-specific DNA, we were able to obtain a partial Plasmodium falciparum mitochondrial genome combined from two adults from two cemeteries (1st-2nd c. C.E.).
