资源简介:
BACKGROUND You Are Entering A Queer Zone (2016) was initially part of an international printmaking exchange portfolio curated by Associate Professor Melanie Yassie from the University of Colorado - Boulder, USA. Using the premise of mapping an imagined place each artist invited was asked to create a print using the medium they are known for to create a map print sized at 8" x 30" to fold down to an artwork scaled at 8" x 10" for the project. With an edition size of 20 from 17 internationally acknowledged artists. CONTRIBUTION You are entering a Queer zone (2016) combines found images form newspapers and boys own books to re-present them in a unique manner using electronic collage and delivered through the medium of screen printing. You are entering a Queer zone operates without a map although suggests movement of some kind. As people move across marked and unmarked boundaries and borders to escape persecution the plight of the refugee operates heavily within the global consciousness. This can be particularly poignant when reflecting on who is eligible and who is not for official refugee status and how fluid this and other identities are. The announcement "you are entering a queer zone" could be a warning or a welcome. This is a new work, exhibited locally and internationally. SIGNIFICANCE You Are Entering A Queer Zone 2016 was originally exhibited in the USA in an exhibition titled, Imagined Place Map, Burris Hall Gallery, part of the "Print, Printed, Printing" Bi-Annual Symposium, Highlands University, Las Vegas and has since been a finalist in the 3rd Ink Masters Exhibition at Tanks Art Centre, Cairns Queensland. All artists selected are key printmaking practitioners; international and Australian. You Are Entering A Queer Zone is now part of the Special collections at the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO and Artist Printmaker Research Collection (AP/RC), Museum of Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX in the USA.
