Digital Archive from an Archaeological Watching Brief at Rainsford Parkway, Rainsford Road, Chelmsford, Essex, June-September 2019

This collection comprises images, site records, a report and Written Scheme of Investigation from an archaeological watching brief at Rainsford Parkway, Rainsford Rd, Chelmsford, Essex. Work was carried out by Archaeology South-East between June and September 2019.

The archaeological watching brief was carried out during groundworks in preparation for the redevelopment of the site and comprised the monitoring of the excavation of a service trench, crane base trench and attenuation tank trench within the 0.22ha site. The stratigraphic sequence observed in all of the trenches illustrated that one to two modern made-ground deposits, sealed by a layer of concrete crush and a layer of tarmac, overlaid the natural clayey gravel deposit. No archaeological deposits, features or finds of pre-modern date were encountered during the watching brief
