Kinship Network of Early American-Returned Students. Square nodes refer to biographed individuals (egos), circle nodes to the relatives mentioned in their biographies. The network describes four types of relations: father-son, uncle-nephew, siblings, spouses. It is a directed network. Each arrow points to the relative (father, uncle, brother…). Blank ties refer father, yellow ties to uncles, green ties to siblings, blue ties to spouses. The "network" is a loose one, it is rather an assemblage of independent family components.
