COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MINI-PERCUTANEOUS NEPHROLITHOTOMY AND OPEN SURGERY IN THE TREATMENT OF PEDIATRIC NEPHROLITHIASIS

Pediatric nephrolithiasis remains a pressing concern in modern urology, with the incidence rising steadily over the past two decades, particularly across endemic regions characterized by hot climates and dehydration risks. Although standard endourological instruments designed for adults are poorly suited to small anatomical structures, the introduction of miniaturized 14–20 Fr equipment has reshaped therapeutic possibilities. Nevertheless, robust comparative evidence regarding the efficacy and safety profile of mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL) versus conventional open procedures in children continues to be limited [1-12].
