METAR (Meteorological Terminal Aviation Routine Dataset)

METAR (Meteorological Terminal Aviation Routine Weather Report) stations within the network transmit their observational data in the form of daily METAR messages. METAR information is generated from weather observations intended for aviation purposes. Most stations report hourly. METAR messages are transmitted from 562 global observation stations (airports), including 131 stations located in the United Kingdom. METAR messages contain observed meteorological elements such as cloud cover, wind speed and direction, visibility, current weather conditions, and maximum gust speed.
