BIOL2050 Lab 3 Distance-based dataset

The experiment was conducted from 2:50 to 3:50 at Danby Woods where located at south of Chimneystack Rd. and west of Keele St. of York University Keele campus on October 3. The temperature was around 13 degree Celsius with moderate rain and moderate to fresh breeze. 20m transect was randomly laid down in 5 different locations of grassland and 5 different locations of woodlot. During observation, experimenters walked along the transect tape with 5 minutes and observed birds which were flying or stationary with binoculars for surrounding areas. The frequency and species of birds, the distance on the transect tape where experimenters saw the birds, and the approximation of the distance from transect tape to the birds will be recorded. Bird species were identified according to the bird guide book in the lab, if the species could not be identified; ‘unidentified’ was assigned as bird species in the data set. In addition, wind speed was also recorded by using Beaufort scale. The experiment was collaborated with Mahal, Enrique, and Elron.
