资源简介:
Pecan production represents a pivotal agricultural activity in the south-central region of the state of Chihuahua. The presence of diseases in this crop has been shown to result in production losses. A two-stage sampling method (cluster and completely random) was employed to select pecan orchards. In this study, we present estimates of the economic impact of the Meloidogyne spp. nematode, both in terms of tree loss and reduced production. The nematode can cause not only a decline in production but also the death of the pecan tree, which would entail losses of between $24,000 and $36,000 over 10 years, the time it would take to replace the tree and restore it to its previous production level. With regard to production, there are losses of 21 ± 7 kg per walnut tree per year in walnut production; that is, at a price of $100.00, losses could amount to $1,400 to $2,800 per walnut tree per year. It is inevitable that these losses will increase over time, as the yield from diseased walnut trees will decline inexorably until the trees perish.
