Lacustrine sediment microbial community response to an extreme El nino event

Salinity can shape microbial community composition (MCC) and related functional groups in lacustrine sediments, but few studies have examined the temporal responses of sedimentary microbial communities to abrupt salinity changes. This study aims to study the microbial community shifts of surface sediments collected in 2014 and 2019 from 13 lakes in Kiritimati Island and determine the role of abrupt salinity change in shaping the microbial community shift.
